A few simple steps before the festival can make a big difference:
- Talk about a meeting point. Choose a specific location where your family will meet if you become separated. Make sure your children know how to find it and identify festival staff or security who can help them.
- Make sure your child knows your name and contact information. Younger children may not know a parent’s phone number. Consider placing your name and phone number on a card, wristband, or other secure item your child can carry.
- Take a family photo before entering the festival. A current photo showing what your child is wearing can be extremely helpful if you become separated.
- Discuss who can help. Teach children to look for uniformed festival staff, security, A-team staff (teal t-shirts), or medical staff if they need help. Remind them that they should never leave the festival grounds with someone they don’t know.
- Plan for the weather. Dress children appropriately and bring weather-appropriate items such as sunscreen, hats, rain gear, and comfortable shoes.
- Pack essentials. Bring any necessary medications, allergy information, hearing protection, snacks, and an empty reusable water bottle if permitted by the festival’s entry policy.
- Consider hearing protection. Concerts can reach high sound levels. Properly fitted ear protection can help protect young ears while still allowing children to enjoy the music.
IF YOU BECOME SEPARATED
If you become separated from your child, notify festival staff or security immediately. Do not wait to see if your child returns on their own.
Provide staff with:
- Your child’s name and age
- A description of what they are wearing
- A recent photo, if available
- Where and when you last saw them
- Any important medical or communication information
Children who are separated from their parents or guardians should be directed to festival staff or the designated family reunification/meeting area.
Parents and guardians should also make sure children know: If you get lost, stay in a safe place and ask a festival staff member, security officer, or A-team Member for help.
